You Know What They Say About Opinions...

It’s always amazing to me how people are shocked when you don’t share the same opinion. Seriously, when somebody asks me who played the best Bond, I want to shoot myself. Should I pick Sean Connery and come off being the snob who loved the “original” bond? Maybe I should choose Daniel Craig, admitting to everybody that I’ve never actually seen a Bond movie? Usually I’ll just pick George Lazenby and call it a day. Unfortunately, these types of questions don’t stop at movies and more often than not, somebody is asking for my opinion on a car.
This is one of the most loaded questions in the world, way worse than choosing the best Bond. Before, you had a one in seven shot you’d agree with your peer, but now your percentage drops, drastically. Whether it’s choosing the greatest muscle car, or the best truck, or why it took 5 minutes for Paul Walker to do a quarter mile, nobody will ever agree. Edmunds recently took the plunge and posted an article titled “The Greatest Audi Quattros Ever” which explores these types of questions. While I agree with the bulk of the list, there were a couple omissions that I’m curious to get your opinions on. My additions are below. Remember, George Lazenby is not an option.
B5 S4 – In a market dominated by the E36 M3, the B5 was Audi’s shot across the bow of the sports sedan market. Introduced in America in 1999 as a 2000 model, the B5 was the first Audi I ever drove. With more tuning potential, Quattro, and a nicer interior, the B5 will always be the car that made me fall in love with the brand.
C5 RS6 – Similar to the S4, the C5 RS6 was Audi taking a gun to a knife fight. In this case it was the BMW M5 that was the target. The first time I “saw” an RS6 was at night and all I heard was the exhaust. To this day the C5 RS6 remains a premium sports sedan with a cult following that has kept prices high.
